FEDERATED NIGER DELTA IJAW COMMUNITIES (FNDIC)Motto: Water for FireDate: May 19, 2009 FNDIC SENDS SOS TO MEND"Right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant"---Martin Luther King Jr. That the Biblical David killed Goliath, let praise be unto God Almighty. That the impoverished Ijaw are reported to effect damage on their nation’s mighty army, let the praise go to God Almighty, for allowing it to happen at His own time and place, and not MEND per se. Come to it, the Ijaw cannot afford to pride themselves at destroying their nation’s army which is saddled with the constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property. The strength of the Ijaw/Niger Delta struggle is not in destroying the Nigerian Army; the strength of the Ijaw struggle is clearly in the beauty of their case for equal political space, democracy, federalism and love of dialogue.. The Ijaw struggle is well-meaning, Nigeria as a whole would be the better for it.. It is common knowledge as it was widely published that MEND had sworn to launch attacks on Gbaramatu Kingdom earlier. Neither MEND nor JTF can therefore rightly claim to love Gbaramatu and be patriotic Nigerians than the good indigenes of Gbaramatu. As reported in The Nation Newspaper in the issue of May 18, 2009 page 2, Col Rabe Abubakar, the JTF Spokesman said: “MEND is lifeless and homeless. We are also advising the general public especially the media not to take them seriously”. While the JTF is calling on the general public not to take MEND seriously on her war propaganda, the JTF equally should not take MEND seriously over declaration of war in the Warri waterways. It is therefore advisable that the JTF should forthwith ceasefire in the current war in the Warri water ways. Perhaps, it is necessary to strongly advise MEND and their political beneficiaries rendering the Ijaw vulnerable to please stay off Gbaramatu Kingdom as the Ijaw of Gbaramatu are not part and parcel of any declaration of war with the Nigerian nation state. The Ijaw of Warri believe in the Ijaw National Congress (INC) for the Niger Delta struggle for Federalism; The Ijaw of Warri believe in the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) for the Ijaw struggle for total resource control; and The Ijaw of Warri are in the struggle for democracy and equal political space all of which are issues of reconciliation in the ongoing engagements with the Federal and State Governments. As a result of the foregoing, the Ijaw of Warri have since promised ceasefire and are waiting on the Federal Government to find time soon to address/redress the Niger Delta national challenge. The Ijaw have not decided at any time and place to renege on the ceasefire promise. MEND and their political beneficiaries especially PDP should therefore save Gbaramatu Kingdom of a declaration of war as Gbaramatu Kingdom is not prepared for war, not even with the neighbouring Itsekiri who are fast on the roadmap to enviable and permanent peace with the Ijaw. Perhaps, it is also necessary at this juncture to strongly advise gentlemen of the press to please crosscheck their information adequately before publishing on MEND and the Ijaw communities of Warri as they have not helped matters in their frantic efforts to wrongfully declare all Ijaw communities as battle ground for the JTF war against MEND. Otherwise, the blood of the innocent ones killed shall be upon you (the press) for creating an atmosphere where nobody is safe. Chief (Dr.) Bello Oboko President, Federated Niger Delta Ijaw Communities (FNDIC). |
